The content within the pages of your website holds all the information that is used to draw in clients, and in turn draw in profits for you. Making sure that what you put on those pages is relevant and interesting enough to intrigue your potential customers is essential. There are certain things that go into writing good content, and certain things that should be avoided.
First off, be sure to keep it concise, sure you may think you're doing your website a favor by stuffing loads of information into a page, but let's be honest, who is going to take the time to read anything that's longer than a few paragraphs. Keep it only as long as it has to be, and space it out well. The majority of online readers simply scan the page, rather than read every word, a bulky paragraph will likely make this more difficult and the user will click off the page after a few lines.
Originality and creativity are crucial. Try to stay away from overused sayings, irrelevant examples, and clichés. Duplicate content is getting easier to spot now a days and can greatly affect your page rank, as well as how your perspective audience views your page.
So what CAN you do to write good content for your website? Firstly, stick to the point. No one wants to listen to you go off on a tangent when they came to your page most likely just to find an answer to a question. Try to put as much relevant information as you can into the smallest space allotted. While doing this though, be sure that your purpose is undoubtedly clear. Make sure your reader knows what to expect out of the content from the beginning; even if this means starting with your conclusion, and proving it throughout your piece. If you can manage to snag your readers attention enough in your first paragraph, you can maybe hope to get lucky enough to have them want to read your whole article.
Content and design are the two most important parts of a website; you can't have one without the other. Writing good content, coupled with a professionally designed layout can prove to be the difference between drawing in more customers, or simply just getting 10 second hits on your webpage that lead nowhere.
